SELF-LEADERSHIP FOR LIFE & WORK
Lead your self through life.
Develop the awareness and capacity to choose more consciously how you live, work and relate.
Are you leading your self,
or is your self leading you?
Much of the way we move through life happens automatically.
We react from patterns, assumptions, identities, fears, habits and expectations that have been shaped over time.
Self-leadership begins when we can see those influences as they are happening - creating the space to choose how we want to respond instead.
AWARENESS IS ONLY THE START
Knowing the pattern is one thing.
Catching it while it’s happening and choosing differently in the moment is another.
Most of us can develop a pretty sophisticated understanding of who we are. We can name our patterns, strengths, triggers, habits and tendencies.
But self-leadership requires another kind of awareness: the ability to recognise the self in motion.
To notice the assumption as you're making it. The defensiveness as it rises. The urge to stay silent. The impulse to take control. The fear narrowing your options. The familiar story beginning to take over.
Because once you can see what is happening while it is happening, you have something you didn't have on autopilot:
the possibility of choosing what happens next.
You know psychological safety matters. You tell your team you want them to challenge you. Then somebody actually does and your tone changes just enough that everyone notices.
You know shouting doesn’t create the relationship you want with your child. You can explain what happens when you become overwhelmed. Then it’s 7:40am, nobody has their shoes on, and you’re already yelling.
You know one of your team members needs honest feedback. You’ve been thinking about it for weeks. Then the 1:1 arrives and you find yourself saying, “Overall, you’re doing really well.”
You know you people-please. You can explain exactly where it came from. Then someone asks you for something you don’t want to do and you hear yourself saying, “Yeah, of course.”
For Individuals
Develop your capacity to lead yourself through life with more awareness choice and integrity.
For Organisations
Develop people who can think for themselves, take responsibiiity and lead from who they are.
THE APPROACH
From autopilot
to conscious participation
Self-leadership isn’t something you master once. It’s a practice you return to in the moments that make up a life — at home, at work, in relationships, under pressure and in the choices you make every day.
You see what is happening, meet yourself in what you find, choose how you want to respond, and live that choice in the real world.
Then life gives you something new to work with, and you begin again.
The aim isn’t “perfect” behaviour. It’s becoming more able to catch your self in motion, create space around the automatic response, and consciously participate in what happens next.
Why With Love & Courage?
Love keeps you in relationship with the human you are.
Courage keeps you in relationship with what might be possible.
Self-leadership asks us to do both.
To see ourselves clearly without turning what we find into evidence that we are wrong or broken AND to be willing to move beyond familiar ways of thinking, responding and living when they no longer serve us.
With love, so you don’t abandon your self.
With courage, so you don’t abandon what’s possible.
Foundations of Self-Leadership
A live programme for people who want to deliberately develop their capacity to lead their self in life work and relationships.
Learn to recognise what is happening in you in real time, meet yourself without immediately judging or abandoning what you find, create more access to conscious choice and practise living those choices in the reality of your own life.
Why this work exists
I’m Kirsty Skinner.
I’ve spent much of my professional life interested in what helps people become more able to think for themselves, take responsibility, challenge what already exists and act on what could be possible.
That curiosity initially arose through psychology and education, leadership development in the British Army and years of work around intrapreneurship, innovation and organisational learning.
But I noticed that giving people permission, tools or opportunity doesn’t automatically make them feel free to use them. We bring our own histories, identities, fears, assumptions and ways of protecting ourselves into every room we enter.
My work then moved deeper into understanding the human doing the leading — how we become who we are, what shapes the way we see and respond to life, and what makes conscious choice possible.
With Love & Courage brings those threads together: leadership, agency and human development from the inside out.
